So your car just stopped running
As I was driving home the other day I could not resist turning my head a looking at all the Spring Flowers and all the green covering the hill. I sure love this time of the year I thought. It just goes on and on for miles. So beautiful. It seemed like everyone was just taking it a little slower today and enjoying life for a change instead of fighting each other for the best spot on the freeway. Things were going well but the car started to act strange. What now I said. The car started to buck but then it was OK. I don't have any power anymore. Just then the dashboard lights came on and I had trouble steering. I pulled the car over to the side of the road and made a fast check to see if I had my cell phone. ( I always have my phone I thought ) I let a lot of the traffic go by and then got out of the car and lifted the hood. Thinking to myself, things have really changed since I was a kid fixing cars. Look at all this stuff. Here is where you need to do some real thinking. What makes the car go? It needs gas. It needs a battery to start the engine. It's got to have air and an ignition source for combustion. OK great. I checked the gas and that's fine. Half a tank. Air is no problem. Wait, air, the filter. I located the air filter it was low and in front on the left side. I remembered that years ago the air filter was on top of the engine and easy to get to. Now it’s a guess if you don't know what you are looking for. I needed a screwdriver to remove the cover. Glad I had my Swiss Army Knife with me. The filter was not all that bad so I just knocked it around a bit to loosen the dirt and re installed it. Maybe the fuel filter but no clue where that could be so I hope it’s not that. I started looking around the engine and thinking that maybe a wire or hose came loose. It was now getting a little dark and if I could not find the problem soon I would have to call for a tow truck to haul me home. Well, to make this story come to happy end I'll let you know what it was that made my vehicle come to a stop. I found a black box with a lot of wires coming out of it. What it is for I have no idea, but there was a connection plug, you know the kind that snaps together. Well this connector plug must have gotten overheated and came apart from the vibrations. It was some what melted and I had to trim away some of the plastic but it went back together OK. I rushed around to try and start the engine and said a mental pray to myself. PLEASE START. The engine started right up like there was not a problem. YES! I said. I got out and slammed the hood down, got back in and started to drive home again. As I was driving home the other day I could not resist turning my head a looking at all the Spring Flowers and all the green covering the hill. I sure love this time of the year I thought. It just goes on and on for miles. So beautiful. I'm home now, looking up I said thank you. Chuck Madere
